Best Places to Visit in Diu - Sightseeing & Things to Do

Diu is one such place in India where you would get the best pleasures of a sea beach and also come back enchanted with this wonderful paradise in the northern part of the state of Gujarat in India. This is one sea beach where you would get to enjoy all the facilities of water sports and where you would have the best experiences of tourist pleasures. Diu a very beautiful island located in the lovely land of Gujarat is one place which a traveler should surely visit and one tourist hub which is a must on the list of Gujarat tours. Spanning over 40 square kilometers, this is actually a very big port and has had huge ships landing here in the 14th and 16th century. Diu has a great deal of Portuguese influence till the year 1961. Today the Portuguese are no longer there but the influence remains.

Diu can be reached by train, rail or air. The nearest railway station is Veraval which is accessible from Ahmedabad. A bus ride would bring you from Veraval station to Diu. This is around 50 miles from Veraval and more than 300 miles from the city of Ahmedabad. With the state transport buses running regularly from Una, Junagadh, Ahmedabad, to this part. This has many good hotels and so tourists can be comfortable and happy here.

When we went here to this lovely paradise I still remember the wonderful cottage that we had taken at a very nominal rate. More than 4 people could be accommodated here and we had great facilities to say here.

Places to See Around Diu

Mandvi

The Mandvi sea beach at Ahmadpur is a very famous sea beach here. This is a great beach locale and gives the best sights of the white sand here. There are no rocks and you can actually play as many water sports as you please in this lovely little Eden. The gadgets for water sports are also available at a very nominal rate. There are trained staff who help you to feel safer. The beach at Diu has a famous fort which has stood testimony to many historical activities here. Built in the year 1533 this fort has water on the three sides and a water canal on the fourth. There is a great view of the fort from here and as you look at the Arabian Sea from here, the entire purpose of coming here is fulfilled. There is a lot of Portuguese architecture here and the entire tour and the experience is mesmerizing.

Saint Paul Church

This is another church that is found in the old Diu town which was constructed sometime in the year 1691. The architectural elegance of the place is greatly captivating and all tourists come here and get enthralled with the unique sights here. There is a temple of Lord Shiva, the Gangeshwar temple here which is around 3 miles from the lovely land of Diu. There are five lingams of the Lord here and there is a 25 metres statue of Nagraj that is seen as we enter the temple.

St Thomas Church

This is again a lovely piece of architecture situated in the centre of the sea. With a big rock and a lovely sea surrounding the tourist love to come here and get a fantastic view of the whole place. This is called a water fort by all the people living here as they like to see the shape of this fort like a ship. The high tide gives the best views of the sea here and it is very relaxing to see the lovely blue waters of the sea lash against the walls of the fort and see its beautiful foam rising up.

Chakratirth and Jalandhar

These are places in and around the land of Diu which give the tourists all the reason to feel relaxed as they are in the most tranquil and the most serene of places. It is a great pleasure to just sit back and relax seeing the sights of the sea here.
